- The 40s were times of hardship and war. However this caused women to be more creative and practical in how they wore and/or designed clothes. All of a sudden women wearing pants was cool, it was more practical at the time. Also a new hemline appeared, and the Midi Skirt was born, where the hemline is just below the knee. There was also an explosion of colours in this age, reds, pinks, yellows, anything bright to make the years of war more bearable.
According to British Vogue ("Midi Town") the lovely, brave 40s are upon us once again. Look out for this years, fall lines, where the hemlines are below the knee and the waists are tightly nipped in.
